In our unscientific poll of readers who saw our latest 60 Minutes story on a plan for oil independence, proposed by oil billionaire T. Boone Pickens, an overwhelming 87% supported the plan. That’s reflecting a general concern among our readers for the state of the economy, the price of oil, and our apparent dependence on foreign powers for U.S.’s economic health – especially with regards to oil.
Pickens’ plan is to rely on natural gas in the short run (a few decades, perhaps?), and wind power in the long run. A lot of our readers were also quite critical of Pickens in the comments section of the page – calling up grievances such as accusations that Pickens squeezed hire prices from natural gas holdings, and that he has a personal agenda to enrich himself with his plan. It’s certainly been a robust dialogue.
