Harry Potter

I covered the release of the last two Harry Potter books. But I think this final book’s release eclipsed the previous ones in terms of the level of worldwide attention.

Late in the day in Los Angeles, a couple of hours after midnight in London, J.K. Rowling’s publisher released video of the author reading the opening pages of “Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows.”

Within an hour and a half, we turned around a Yahoo! interactive feature with audio of Rowling’s reading, combined with AP photos from around the world of people who’ve already gotten their books, and those still waiting.

Even though the interactive was a very quick turnaround piece, and didn’t have the nuance and storytelling I usually like to incorporate into these features, I think it still managed to capture a global moment in the Harry Potter phenomenon.
