This Sunday we publish a 60 Minutes feature on Barack Obama. Among other things, Obama discusses race and his drug use in high school and college (marijuana and cocaine).
Obama has now made it official that he is running for the Democratic presidential nomination in the 2008 race. And the 60 Minutes interview is his first long-form sit-down interview. We ran a preview clip from the interview today on Yahoo! news.
I found Obama’s comments on race the most compelling part of the feature. For one thing, he says that he suspects criticism that he’s not “black enough” are coming from white intellectuals, not the black community. Obama also says he has settled within himself questions about his own mixed-race identity.
