Elixir of Love
“Una furtiva lagrima” from Donizetti’s opera L’Elisir D’Amore (”A furtive tear” from Elixir of Love) was the first aria I ever learned. It has somehow fit me like a glove, and I’m not sure why.
It’s also one of the most beautiful arias written for a tenor.
I recorded it as the other aria for my demo reel. And I thought it was time I posted it on my blog!
There are A LOT of different interpretations of this song. I’ve chosen to be a little bit more conservative. I took the tempo a little faster than most tenors would - and probably closer to what the composer originally intended. And I sang it with fewer ornamentation and one fewer high note at the end (which I think detracted from the piece).
